Give A Little Bit

This is the holiday season where so many get into the spirit of giving and loving, but forget about it the rest of the year. For a good portion of my adult life, I have  been involved in a wide array of community service, charity or philanthropy.  Giving of my time and resources has always given me a lot of joy.

Now as a busy single mom, it is a little bit more challenging to find the surplus of time I used to have to devote to lots of causes and with some life altering circumstances my financial house is not in overflow, but I have purposed that in the New Year I will get back to participating in serving my community and making it a better place.

I have already begun teaching my son that there is more to life than having stuff. He is at an age where Christmas and toys is really important, but one day I explained to him that he is a very blessed little boy and there are so many children that don't have toys and so many of the things that he has in abundance. He listened to me intently and said: "ok mommy"  but what made my heart melt was the next day when he asked me to help him go through his toy box and select toys to give to children that were less fortunate.

.I try very hard to lead by example and my son is well on his way to growing up to be a a great person of honor.  At the tender age of 5 he already has such a compassionate heart. When we see homeless people he wants to pray for them. Having compassion and empathy for others makes the world a better place. Just giving your time can make a huge difference in someone's life.

Oh LV. This made my heart melt. Your son is precious and it is so good to teach him that now as well. I have always taught my kids that way and it really shows too. You are doing a WONDERFUL job. I have a very high respect for mothers like yourself.

Your son is truly learning the spirit of giving back. I'm sure he's grateful to have a mother like you, that plants profitable seeds in his life.

From a tender age, children are able to pick up things easy, good or bad. So, it's best for parents to be mindful of the teachings they give their children.

You're doing a great job! :)

As for me, I've made it a conscious effort to give back, in whatever way I can!

Volunteering is something I really want to do in the future as well. I do believe that it is better to give than to receive, but unfortunately is harder to practice sometimes:(
And love your orange pants, LV! Happy Friday.

This is a great lesson for a child of any age. I try to keep myself in check so as I don't over stimulate my 2 1/2 year old with too many things. This upcoming year I plan to be in more control of my finances and how I spend my dollars. #blmhop Andrea @ www.be-quoted.com

You appear to be doing a standup job raising your son, and it's clear that even at a young age, his lessons are being taken to heart.

One of my favourite charitable acts when we were young was a donation checklist where the amount a household will donate based on the number of certain items in your home (e.g. number of electricity outlets, number of bathrooms). We had fun filling out the checklist, and our donation was then a reflection of our household financial situation.

I am touched by this. Little man is sounding a lot like his mommy. You are such a great role model and your son is taking on so many of the great qualities that make you who you are.
