Turkey Sliders with Horseradish Mayo and Kettle Chips

I love miniature foods! They are fun and pack a big impact in a little package.  I fell in love with miniature burgers when I visited Chicago and had my first White Castle burger.

My cousin decided to take me to try a White Castle burger and at the time, I didn’t know they were so small. She said:  “Ok, I’m gonna get about six, so you should get about six and we’ll have onion rings and French fries” I looked at her sideways and then said: “ who in the heck eats six burgers” she laughed and said, you’ll understand in a minute. So we walked into this little nondescript place and there they were. The cutest, tiniest burgers I had ever seen.  And everybody was ordering six or more! Who knew? LOL!

These days the cute miniature burgers known as sliders are just about everywhere. I wanted to put a gourmet twist on the slider, so I created a turkey slider with creamy horseradish mayo that makes these taste AMAZING! Yes, I know you are probably thinking…. Horseradish? She 's got jokes.

You have probably eaten horseradish before and just didn’t give it any thought because you didn’t know that the cocktail sauce you dipped your shrimp in had a hint of horseradish in it. Ever wondered what gave the cocktail sauce that spicy little kick? HORSERRADISH! Or if you have ever been to a restaurant and ordered prime rib, they usually serve it with horseradish for dipping.

Ok, so have I convinced you not to be scared to try this?

Most grocery stores now carry slider buns, but if you are not able to find them, a dinner roll, sliced in half will work perfectly. I served these with Kettle chips and it was the perfect marriage of sweet n spicy and crisp and salty. Delicious! Are you ready? Lets go make sliders!

Stop Playin....you know you want this

Ingredients

12 ounces ground turkery
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
I teaspoon minced garlic or you can substitute with garlic powder
¼ cup minced onion (1 teaspoon onion powder can be substituted)
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Horseradish Mayo

1/2 cup Mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sour cream
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

For the burgers:
In a large bowl, using your hands, mix the seasonings into the meat until everything is well combined.

Divide the seasoned meat into small portions (this can make 8-12 sliders depending on how big you want them) Shape the meat into a small patty approximately 3 inches wide and 3/8 inch thick. Once all of the patties are shaped , refrigerate them for an hour or overnight to give the flavors time to marinate the meat.

For the Horseradish Mayo

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, sour cream and horseradish. Season with the salt and pepper and refrigerate until needed.

Grill, or fry ground turkey patties for 2-3 minutes per side. While the turkey patties are cooking, butter your buns and toast them.  To assemble, add sliced tomato, lettuce, red onion and a dollop of horseradish mayo.  When you take a bite and all of thsoe succulent flavors hit your mouth, just throw your head back and say: ummm ummm good.  And when the urge hits to lick your fingers and smack.....go ahead. I think it makes them taste better:-)

Happy Eating!
