Reflections...

It has been three months since my last blog post. A lot can happen in three months. Life is an unpredictable thing. Just as sure as summer is fall. Birds fly south. The young become the old. Seasons change. I had been feeling unmotivated and took a much needed blog vacation and then something traumatic and devastating happened.

I lost my father.

My father was always the one who spoke life affirming words to me. As a little girl, my father was full of love and affection and as an adult that tradition continued with him still calling me by my childhood pet name. Their is something special about the bond between a daughter and her father that cannot be explained in words. Fathers are protectors. When I went through a cataclysmic divorce a few years ago, it was my father that assured me that the sun would shine again and that he would be there to thoroughly inspect the next man to make sure he was suitable for his daughter. It saddens me that my father is gone and he will not be here to see his daughter get it right the next time.

Saying goodbye to the first man I loved was hard and attending his funeral and laying him to rest was devastating. I have some of my dads clothes and I am looking forward to having them tailored to fit me and incorporating them into my wardrobe. I smile when I think of the colorful language my dad used when he talked. He could make a sailor blush:-)

It very rarely gets cold enough in Cali to wear a coat, but I recently got some wear out of my orange pea coat.

I am constantly surprised by the irony in life. The folks I thought would be there for me weren't and the ones I least expected were the ones that were front and center. Life is funny like that. I am really blessed to have so many good people in my life.
I feel grateful to those who sent cards and those who insisted on taking me out to get my mind off of things and refused to let me stay depressed. And thank you to you my blog readers for the numerous emails of concern because I hadn't posted anything in 3 months. Thank you so much for your concern. Now I am in a better place to get back to my regular blogging schedule and thank you all for taking the time to stop by and share in my world.

Condolences, LV:( I lost my father in 2006, and I felt the same way as you. They say losing a dad means having that hole in your hear forever, and I agree.

On a lighter note, I'm glad to see you back. (((hugs)))

LV, you are very blessed to have had a special relationship with your father, and that he set such great standards for you and protected you. Some of us could only wish for such a father. He will always be with you in spirit.

I am so very sorry for your loss LV. I don't have a relationship with my father and he was never there for me at all. But I can imagine that would be so hard. I am glad you are able to feel how blessed you are to have had such a loving influence in your life. I will be thinking of you and wishing you peace.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my father when I was 16 so I know how you're feeling. I actually did the same thing with his clothes. I wore his ties all the time in high school after he passed. Tweet me any time if you need to talk!

Condolences on the death of your dad LV and be grateful for all the time and memories that you have of him. Some people lose their parents pretty early and go through life without the love of biological parents.

I'm glad you are back blogging again. Have a great weekend.

Welcome Back!

I will pray for you during your loss. May peace abide in your life. I, too, have not been blogging - for a while now. I haven't been motivated much lately.
The following statements are so true. The reality of them can be so difficult to deal with.

"I am constantly surprised by the irony in life. The folks I thought would be there for me weren't and the ones I least expected were the ones that were front and center." - SO TRUE!

Your post brought tears in my eyes. I am so sorry for the loss of your father and I am so lucky to still have my parents in good health and living not far.
It made me angry to hear about friends who haven't been there but I am happy to hear that others took care of you!

I wish you all the best and I look forward to your next posts.

LV, I'm so very sorry to hear about your father's passing. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I have been visiting your blog periodically and wondering where you were, and I feel guilty for not taking that next step and reaching out. You are brave for sharing some words about such a personal and difficult experience. What a lovely tribute. Your father sounds like wonderful man, and it's clear he did a great job raising you. May your happy memories with him carry you through this difficult time. I love the idea of having his clothes tailored so you can wear them.
