Talesai and Night+ Market (LV's LA)

Right on the Sunset Strip a few blocks from Doheny and a stone's throw from the Key Club is Talesai, a cute little Thai restaurant that has been serving traditional Thai food to hungry Angelenos for 25 years. This upscale, yet casual spot is the perfect quiet little lunch spot, but this place gets really exciting after dark when it is transformed into Night + Market by the owner and chef Kris Yenbamroon.  This restaurant has two distinct personalities. Familiar and traditional during the say, sassy, bold and unexpected at night.

For traditional Thai food, Talesai during the day has the footprint of his parents, with favorites such as Orange Shrimp, Curry Fried Rice, Cashew Chicken and Thai Box Chicken. These offerings are delicious and satisfying, but if you want an adventure for your tastebuds, come here when the streetlights come on for uncompromising, flavorful Thai street food such as Thai sausage, fried chicken wings with chile sauce, Crab Fried Rice and every combo of salty, sweet, pungent and aromatic that you can imagine.

late afternoon is a great time to grab lunch and relax

Talesai is a beautiful and chic restaurant

Beautiful and serene during the day

When the sun goes down, Talesai transforms into her sassy alter ego: Night+Market. You will enjoy all the fun street foods that make traveling to Thailand such an adventure and you will get to explore the chefs creative genius in a way you won't experience at Talesai during the day.

Ob Gai chicken stew is served in a flavorful  broth of lemongrass, kaffir lime and red chile paste

The crab is nicely balanced with curry and onions

Night+Market has many dishes that feature pork, but I love the seafood and poultry dishes and found them absolutely sublime, especially this flavorful crab fried rice

The communal tables and small side tables, make this a great spot for mingling with strangers, bonding with your friends and being able to interact with the chef. There are many great wines to complement the different flavors and textures of the food.

Thai and and Chinese restaurants are catching on to the American palates unquenchable desire for a sweet decadent treat to finish off a great meal. This trio of homemade ice creams does not disappoint. From left to right: Ovaltine ice cream, graham cracker and malted milk. So delicious!

I highly recommend that you try both Talesai and Night+Market. Have lunch at Talesai and then on an evening when you are feeling adventurous and want a new experience, try Night+Market. Nothing beats having two different experiences in one restaurant:-)

Reading your restaurant reviews is an absolute delight. I love the idea of a restaurant moonlighting something different by night, and I hear Thai street food is phenomenal. Wishing I wasn't a 6-hour flight away from what sounds like a slice of heaven!
