Mosaic

As I promised, I will be sharing more poetry with you. I got so many emails asking about poetry after I posted a couple of poems months ago, that I just could not go any longer without posting some poetic flow. I will try to post my "flow" a little more consistently in the future. I thought it would help you understand and appreciate the poetry more if you knew what inspires some of it. This poem is called Mosaic.

A Mosaic is a piece of art made from broken pieces and it is put together in a unique unpredictable way.  A Mosaic is colorful and random and always amazing to look at. So how did I come to write a poem called Mosaic? Some of you who have been with me from the beginning know that my life over the past year has been pretty rough. I have dealt with a lot and all of it was unexpected and painful.  People that I never thought would hurt me did. Others I thought I could trust, betrayed me. I felt like my life was a bunch of random broken pieces, but what I have learned is that God can take some broken pieces and put it back together in a way that is more beautiful than it was in its original form. So, I wanted to share with you a poem about my life...

Mosaic

I’m gonna put these broken
Pieces together
Mosaic

They keep throwing dirt on my name
Character Assassination
yeah

Pour some more on
It’ll just make me look better
When I rise from the dirt
Roses

I studied for this test
I was built to excel
And I won’t quit
Strength, Courage and Wisdom
I invented the s***

Time ticks quickly
From the minute to the hour
Positive over negative
That thing resting between my ears is my power

I catch fiery darts without hesitation
My life is a pop quiz
God leads me through my initiation

I don’t major in minor things

Prepared to go
Head-to-Head
Like a soldier in Soweto
But I won’t waste time
On those
Not fit to lick
My stilettos

My life imitates art
Sometimes the challenges and enemies emerge faster
My life is a mosaic
Thriving in the hands of
my master

I like that part.

I also like your comparing your life to a Mosaic. when the pieces are put together your life becomes an art designed only by your master.

Beautifully written.

The poem is beautiful. It's always difficult when a friend betrays you. What doesn't break us, makes us stronger and wiser. God only puts us through obstacles that He knows we can overcome. **hugs**

Did you go to school for creative writing?? It sure seems like it! Poetry scares the heck out of me, so I took the creative non-fiction route. :) Maybe someday I'll be brave and take a poetry class. This is great.

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such kind words LV. It's always a nice surprise when someone new drops by a pays a compliment.

After reading your profile the first thing I wanted to check out was your flow, I've gotta say I'm definitely feeling this piece. This has poetry slam written all over it. It's engaging, it's street, most of all it's empowering. Well done.
