Candy Rain

It is COLD!!!!!! It is rainy too! In Sunny Southern California, I don't get a lot of opportunities to wear heavy coats and winter clothes like people in much colder climates, but we do have a little bit of a rainy season, although it doesn't last long.  I now have a new appreciation for winter. Summer used to be my favorite season, but I really love this time of year, especially if I can stay home and cuddle up in a warm blanket and watch good movies.

I am wearing a candy colored coat that has not seen the light of day in years, but today is perfect for it. I have a bit of a monochromatic look with my coat, umbrella and purse in the same color palette. I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favorite rainy day songs, which range from songs that were released before I was born, to contemporary pop, gut wrenching soul and everything in-between. Good music is just good music!  So take some time to listen to the great tunes I have shared with you at the end of this post. Do you have any favorite rain songs?

Cold and Rainy...

Nothing like bright color on a dark, dismal, dank, damp day

There is a quote I love that says: "Life is not about getting through the storm, but about learning to dance in the rain" I am doing that literally:-)

Singing in the Rain with Gene Kelly. I love this song and I am a big fan of Gene Kelley. This is a classic and was created before I was born

Making Love in the Rain by Herb Albert, featuring Janet Jackson and Lisa Keith. This is one of those sexy rain songs to listen to with your sweetheart:-)

I Can't Stand the Rain by Ann Peebles, very soulful indeed. This song has been remade several times including a version by Missy Elliot.

Rain drops keep falling on My Head by BJ Thomas. A lot of rain songs have a melancholy feel to them, but this is a happy rain song. I love it!

It Never Rains in Southern California by Toni Tony Tone. this is a great song and since I am a native Angeleno, this has to be on my list of great rain songs:-)

Laughter in the Rain by Neil Sedaka. A great and upbeat rain song! and yes I am corny enough to like Neil Sedaka

Candy Rain by Soul For Real, This is a great song and this group was discovered by the late Heavy D.  This song just makes me feel good and if you listen closely, the opening bars have a sample from "Baby This Love I Have" by the late Minnie Ripperton. She has one of the most amazing voices in music history and has influenced many artists including Mariah Carey who often imitates Minnie Ripperton's whistle register high notes and Jill Scott cites many Ripperton as one of her biggest influences. So you get a nice two for one with this song:-) Classic Minnie Sample and Soul For Reals great vocals!

Can you stand the rain by New Edition. A great classic track! Love it!

Rain, by Bob James. I love love love Jazz and this list of rainy day music would not be complete without this instrumental track by Bob James. If you have never heard of him, trust me, you have heard his music. Rappers love to sample him. Curious as to a big artist who sampled Bob James? Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff sampled Westchester Lady in the classic hip hop track, "Here We Go Again"

Enjoy today and stay warm. This is the perfect donuts and hot chocolate weather:-)

I'm glad you had a chance to wear your cold weather/rainy weather rain clothes. Otherwise they are taking up precious real estate in your closet ;-)

I know many of the songs about rain you posted but others are new to me so I'll check them out. We get a LOT of rain where I live. Happy week!
